The first major awards show of the year brought together all manner of dress, hair and makeup worthy of Hollywood Royalty. Fashion at The Golden Globes ran the gamut, from daring (we see you Kate Hudson in that Versace) to downright elegant (Amal Alamuddin wins… period). Much of the red carpet featured the traditional smoky eye/nude lip combo, but we were most moved by the fresher approaches to hair and makeup.
The ever elegant Alamuddin leads the way with simple makeup that enhanced her strong brows and prominent mouth. Her makeup artist kept the eyes minimal, so the overall look didn’t compete with her hair or dress.
Actress Emily Blunt was a very close second with polished skin and an overall ‘wash’ of shimmering color on her eyes and lips. We’re especially fond of the strong brow, which worked well to complement her braided hair style and turquoise earrings.
Not to be outdone, Kerry Washington managed to stand apart from the smoky eye set, with a fresh lip color and luminous skin. The strong eye makeup worked with her up-swept hair and structured dress. The eyes, paired with the petal-hued lip color, softened the lines of her dress for an overall effect that was more sweet than sultry.
With Spring knocking at Winter’s door (particularly in Los Angeles, where the season traditionally starts early), it’s nice to see a fresh preview of petal-soft makeup that does more to enhance the face, rather than cover it up.
